According to IOL Cyril Ramaphosa told residents in the Western Cape that the provincial housing department had returned R1.7 billion of housing grant funds to the National Treasury.
Caleb Kay has posted a video of the president doing this, while putting his hand on a resident’s shoulder.
Here's the video of @CyrilRamaphosa blatantly lying, as well as WC Minister Bongikosi's response. Cyril doesn't just lie, he lies passionately. Please RT to expose the liar that Cyril is😡 pic.twitter.com/fp8dMKy6oC

Former Nelson Mandela Bay mayor Athol Trollip posting a video from the minister for housing in the Western Cape calling the president a liar.
This is what the Western Cape minister of human settlements ( housing) has to say about the Presidents false claims. I rest my case! pic.twitter.com/z7Bv2TtWve

According to the DA, for the last nine years they’ve never sent a cent of that grant back to Parliament.
DA MP John Steenhuisen also came up with this table, showing that the DA had spent the entire grant.
Shame poor Ramaphosa, he can’t tell the truth about his own party anymore so he is resorting to telling lies about others. No Mr President, the Western Cape spent 100% of its housing budget- now will you apologize? #RamaPinochio pic.twitter.com/1jfzqnKdfb

I don’t know where this table is from, but I can verify one of the figures on it – the figure from 2016/2017 appears on a report hosted by the Parliamentary Monitoring Group on the grant.
According to that report, the Western Cape had indeed spent its allocation, thus I’m inclined to believe Steenhuisen’s table.
I have never had someone put their hand on my shoulder, look me in the eye, and tell me the truth.
It makes sense that the Western Cape has spent its budget when you look at it.
Last year The Treasury had decided to cut its urban settlement grants to Johannesburg and Cape Town by a combined R540 million.
According to The South African, the DA weren’t happy about this. If they weren’t spending the money, they wouldn’t have cared that much.
Further, look at how the population is moving.
That’s from Stats SA‘s mid-year population estimates for 2018.
So, what you’re seeing there is that over 300,000 people are expected to move to the Western Cape in the 2016 to 2021 period.
The only province with higher net inwards migration is Gauteng, which blows the Western Cape out of the water with over a million migrants.
And that was also targeted by the ANC government deciding to trim the housing budget. Johannesburg had voted the ANC out of office after all.
It makes sense in this situation that the Western Cape’s housing grant has been spent, it is where people are moving to.
So what you’ve got is a situation where the ANC has engineered a housing problem, and the president putting his hand on a woman’s shoulder, looking her in the eye, and lying about it.
According to News24, during the same tour Ramaphosa said that the DA is the best at everything, but when you look at how they treat “our people” it is clear that the DA don’t care for them.
I couldn’t help but crack a smile as Jan Gerber, the reporter, mentioned that Ramaphosa was building a mansion on two plots, worth about R30 million in Fresnaye.
Kind of says it all, doesn’t it?
